RAD Use Cases

Customer Service

Actual SCOT Incident.

The Incident

After finishing their shopping at Costco, two customers went to their car only to find that someone had backed into their truck causing a considerable amount of damage. The customers noticed the SCOT tower less than 20 feet from their truck and asked if Costco could provide them information on the perpetrator(s). Costco contacted Watchmen Patrol who were able to provide clear video of the vehicle that backed into the customer’s truck causing the damage. The customers were very appreciative of the information they could supply to their insurance company. Without SCOT, they would have not had any idea who caused the damage to their truck.

SCOT™ Response

Since SCOT™ has been deployed there at Costco in Victorville, security and customer service have been increasing. Having a guard staff the RMC, communication with the on-site security is responsive. Helping observe and report any activity in the area and respond to incidents in a timely manner. SCOT™ Technology Used:

  1. Human Detection Alerts – SCOT™’s human detection alerting helps maintain situational awareness in the area of deployment.
  2. Remote Monitoring Center (RMC) – SCOT™’s ability to provide human interaction through its RMC allowed the security to respond quickly with up to date information of what’s happening in the area.
  3. Recording of video – SCOT™’s cameras recorded the video of the incident.
  4. Mac Address capture – With Mac Tracker on board, SCOT™ will now be able to inform security if that same person comes with in 100ft of the unit.

Results

At a low cost to the company, SCOT™ provided a security post where a human guard would not otherwise be present, allowing for situational awareness 24/7 and protection to the company’s assets.

Student Safety

Actual SCOT Incident

The Incident

A school bus dropped student athletes off following an off-site event after school hours. One student was not picked up and was left on campus and had a dead cell phone battery. The student engaged with the Security Control and Observation Tower (SCOT™) unit to reach the Remote Monitoring Center (RMC). The guard who was working at the RMC called the student’s parents and remained engaged until they arrived.

SCOT™ Response

A guard staffing the RMC was able to communicate with the student on campus through the video-conference-calling feature to help arrange for safe transportation for the student athlete to get home.

SCOT™ Technology Used

  1. Remote Monitoring Center (RMC) – SCOT™’s ability to provide human interaction through its RMC allowed the student to contact its parents when no other means of communication were available.
  2. Recording of video – SCOT™’s cameras recorded the call between the RMC guard and the student for any future needs.
  3. Large tablet/security help center – SCOT™’s easy-to-use tablet was used to reach the RMC.

Results

At a low cost to the school campus, SCOT™ provided a security post where a human guard would not otherwise be present, allowing the student to secure safe transportation home.

Sexual Assault

Actual SCOT Incident

The Incident

A RAD client with a brand new SCOT v1.2 had two female employees’ reported being sexual assaulted by another employee. The client knew that a SCOT unit had line of sight to the alleged location of the assaults. RAD’s Remote Monitoring Center was notified with the approximate time of the incident and a RAD operator found and pulled video of the incidents using RAD’s innovative detection log system.

SCOT™ Response

SCOT’s ability to quickly isolate and share the video gave the end user’s HR department near instant access to video of a serious incident. The suspect was shown the video, confessed to the assaults and was dismissed from his position with the end user. It is not known to us if the victims pressed criminal charges or if the police were contacted. SCOT was instrumental by:

  1. Allowing innovative use of detection logs to quickly isolate the video.
  2. Recording of video – SCOT™’s cameras recorded the 3mp 30fps video of the incident to be used as possible evidence.

Results

SCOT established that within its radius inappropriate behaviors will be captured and made immediately available to staff. This unit worked with a plug in and zero other infrastructure or coordination with the end user’s IT/network group. SCOT and Wally can be immediately and simply deployed to provide immediate benefits of video recording.

Graffiti Prevention

Actual SCOT Incident

The Incident

A company was having issues with their property being tagged with graffiti. The company was painting over the graffiti regularly with anti-graffiti paint and yet the graffiti continued. Before planting a guard to stand in that location 24/7, they decided to deploy RADs Security Control and Observation Tower (SCOT™), with continued remote monitoring (RMC) of the cameras and alerts. One-night SCOT™ alerted to human detection in the area. The remote monitoring center (RMC) received the alert of a person wearing a dark hoody with a bag. The RMC contacted local security to respond to the area while continuing to monitor the situation. Security got on site quickly and was able to question the person and discover that he was in possession of spray paint.

SCOT™ Response

Since SCOT™ has been deployed there have been no graffiti incidents. Having a guard staff the RMC communication with the on-site security is responsive. Helping observe and report any activity in the area.

Public Urination

Actual SCOT Incident

The Incident

A RAD retail client had years of issues with public urination along the back wall of their property to the point where the concrete had been permanently visibly stained with urine. The property is near some areas of homelessness and it was repeatedly witnessed that the source of people urinating came from those areas.

SCOT Battery was installed within 15 minutes with a goal or providing a visible deterrent backed up with RAD’s Remote Monitoring Center (RMC) ready to respond to incidents.

SCOT™ Response

The first day of implementation SCOT alerted the RMC while performing an automated response to a suspect seen in the target zone. The suspect left the site after being politely asked by the RMC. After several additional similar incidents the frequency of urination attempts has dropped to nearly zero.

  1. Application of human detection and automated response for immediate acknowledgement and determent of inappropriate activity.
  2. Low possibly of confrontation escalation as operator is remote.
  3. Property protected at a fraction of the cost of alternate solutions.

Results

SCOT established that within it’s radius inappropriate behaviors will be identified and an appropriate response will be immediately performed.

Furthermore SCOT demonstrated it’s ability to change long-established destructive behaviors in a low cost and low cost, low impact method.

Trespassing

Actual SCOT Incident.

The Incident

A company deployed a SCOT unit in the back of a retailer near their loading dock due to a high volume of illegal dumping, dumpster diving, and trespassing during their closed hours. Using SCOT’s response panel in conjunction with our advanced human and vehicle detection violators set off an alert with sirens with an LED message. These alerts are also forwarded to our client’s security company, so they can monitor and respond to the alerts sent by the unit.

SCOT™ Response

Since SCOT has been deployed at this store there has been a noticeable decline in illegal activity due to the alerts and deterrent created by the presence of SCOT. SCOT Technology Used:

  1. Human Detection Alerts – SCOT’s human detection alerting helps maintain situational awareness in the area of deployment.
  2. Vehicle Detection Alerts – SCOT’s vehicle detection alerting helps maintain situational awareness in the area of deployment.
  3. Response Panel – SCOT’s Response panel alerts create a deterrent warning
  4. Remote Monitoring Center (RMC) – SCOT’s ability to provide human interaction through its RMC allowed the security to respond quickly with up to date information of what’s happening in the area.
  5. Recording of video – SCOT’s cameras recorded the video of the incident.

Results

At a low cost to the company, SCOT™ provided a security post where a human guard would not otherwise be present, allowing for situational awareness 24/7 and protection to the company’s assets

Passive Threat Prevention

Actual SCOT Incident

The Incident

Several suspects stole items from the Costco in San Bernardino. About 30 minutes later the same suspects stole items from the Costco in Fontana. Approximately two and half hours later the same suspects stole items from the Costco in Palmdale. Costco’s internal security reviewed footage at all 3 Costco’s to determine it was the same suspects. However, none of the 3 Costco’s could provide vehicle information. In searching the video footage from the appropriate time frame to get from Fontana to Victorville, the SCOT tower in the parking lot captured what appeared to be the same suspects circling the Costco Victorville parking lot about an hour and a half before the Palmdale robbery. The suspects did not get out their vehicle in Victorville. It is surmised that they saw the additional security measures of the SCOT towers and decided not to hit Costco Victorville. Even if that is not the case, SCOT was able to provide vehicle information of the suspect’s car and Costco was able to pass that information to the local Sheriff’s department.

Active Threat Prevention

Actual SCOT Incident

The Incident

In the early morning hours, a truck entered the loading dock area of a big box retailer. Suspects exited the truck and attempted to steal pallets by placing them into the truck.

SCOT™ Response

While on active duty with security patrol monitoring activated, the Security Control and Observation Tower (SCOT™) annunciated a warning and captured photo and video footage of the crime. The suspects left the scene without completing the theft.

SCOT™ Technology Used

  1. Vehicle detection – SCOT™ sounded an alert when the vehicle entered the space at a monitored time where any vehicles entering the area would be considered suspicious.
  2. LEDs – SCOT™ entered into high visibility mode to deter any criminal activity.
  3. Long-range audio – SCOT™ issued a long-range audio alert to advise the suspects to leave immediately.
  4. Recording of video – SCOT™’s cameras recorded video footage for future forensic use.
  5. MAC Address capture – SCOT™ utilized its MAC Address capture technology for immediate entry into BOLO system so security is notified if the suspect shows up again.

Results

At a low cost to the retailer, SCOT™ protected property, collected evidence and set up a BOLO in case of the suspects’ return.

Asset Protection

Actual Wally Incident.

The Incident

A distribution center had 2 Wally units installed and within a few weeks of the deployment a breach in internal protocol was discovered. Some onsite staff had been seen moving around $300,000 worth of product through an unauthorized exit. This was able to be caught and reported to the management quicker than more conventional methods thanks to our advanced human detection alerts, video recording, and our Robot Monitoring Center.

Wally™ Response

Since Wally has been deployed at this distribution center the management has been able to be more aware of what is going on at these sensitive exits and ensuring that their guards are carrying out their duties. Wally Technology Used:

  1. Human Detection Alerts – Wally’s human detection alerting helps maintain situational awareness in the area of deployment.
  2. Remote Monitoring Center (RMC) – Wally’s ability to provide human interaction through its RMC allowed the security to respond quickly with up to date information of what’s happening in the area.
  3. Recording of video – Wally’s cameras recorded the video of the incident.

Results

At a low cost to the company, Wally provided video evidence of company protocol being breached and is helping to ensure that protocol gets followed in order to protect the company’s assets.

Theft

Actual SCOT Incident

The Incident

Costco notified Watchmen Patrol of a theft that happened one afternoon. A suspect grabbed a large amount of items and ran out the back door. The suspect then got into a waiting car and drove off. The door was less than 100 feet from a SCOT tower. Watchmen Patrol was able to provide footage of the getaway car, including the license plate, and a closeup photo of the suspect to Costco who turned the information over to the local Sheriff’s office. Without SCOT, Costco would not have had a good close up of the suspect and would not have known any information about the getaway car.

Active Shooter

The Simulation

Today’s threat landscape is rife with ever-present fears of emergency situations, such as active shooters, in schools, large enterprise businesses and on corporate campuses, event centers, and big-box retailers. Using the Security Control and Observation Tower (SCOT™), these locations can implement intelligent technologies that allow security leaders to communicate critical information to first responders and people in emergency situations quickly and efficiently, as well as provide valuable visual information to those responding to the threat.

SCOT™ Response

Using  SCOT™’s video camera technology, first responders are able to gain vital visual information about suspected shooters through RAD Software Suite’s advanced incident and event management system. In addition, live views of critical paths of travel help first responders better navigate through and clear areas when responding to an active shooter event.

SCOT™ Technology Used

  1. Short- and long-range visibility – SCOT™ is able to gather key images to identify suspected shooters and transmit these images back to first responders for identification.
  2. Digital Signage LED – Brings important visual-based information to people within the immediate area.
  3. Paging – The ability to spread valuable information through paging capabilities brings critical instructions about how to “shelter in place” or “evacuate” to people in the area.

The Result

Using the SCOT™ tower’s communication and visual information collection capabilities, active shooter situations can be addressed by offering valuable information to first responders without endangering personnel within the immediate area. SCOT can be used to identify persons of interest, evaluate footage for investigative and forensic purposes, and relay critical instructions and information to those involved in the emergency event. Additionally, instant communications through SCOT™ voiceover capabilities makes it easy to relay information quickly to the surrounding area.
