Case Study – Community Services

RAD Delivers Community Services & Savings

How do we provide vital community safety services in an era of realigned law enforcement and community relations?

Robotic Assistance Devices (RAD) has completely transformed the way law enforcement personnel can provide, and support, vital community services. RAD’s entire fleet of solutions are cellular optimized meaning they only require power – and with some solutions, power is included. To these solutions, video cameras are now merely the eyes in front of powerful processors capable of running advanced artificial intelligence analytics that perform tasks once unthinkable – except to the innovators at RAD.

Providing deterrence to criminal acts, non-biased autonomous engagement, with full instance recording, and more, RAD’s solutions allow the community to positively interact with law enforcement in a way that did not previously exist.

  1. Improve the perception of safety and reduce the opportunity for crime
  2. Create non-biased, non-discriminatory, fully-recorded autonomous and remote to situations in progress
  3. Provide situational awareness to responders and command staff in real-time – with no IT involvement

RAD’s solutions provide all this – and much more. With a device well-suited for every location and environment, RAD solutions offer both a deterrence plus the welcome addition of taking immediate action; whether autonomously or initiated by monitoring personnel or local authorities.

SCOT (Security Control Observation Tower) is RAD’s flagship product. Standing over 7’ tall, SCOT is capable of manning and monitoring locations 24/7, and at a fraction of the cost of manned security personnel. The unit’s 360° field of view through four high-positioned, hi-resolution, full-color, always-on digital cameras place eyes on property and periphery unlike any other product.

SCOT can be positioned and engaged to monitor and record both human and vehicle activity. RAD’s feature of SuspectSpotter uses artificial intelligence for accurate detection of persons – and then can perform a variety of actions based on location, time of day, and day of the week. These actions are a significant deterrent to potential perpetrators.

WALLY (A Wall Mounted SCOT) is a welcome complement to front desk reception, lobby concierge services, and guarding personnel. WALLY is capable of performing employee and visitor check-ins and clearances with access controls. WALLY monitors the surrounding area through its dual hi-resolution, full-color digital cameras providing a wide 180° field of view.

Notably, WALLY (with optional HSO solution) can perform valuable health screening assessments, and detect those wearing, or not wearing, face coverings as required by local mandate or policy.

SCOT and WALLY also include the capability of initiating emergency calls to an on-duty guard or remote monitoring officer with two-way audio communications. In the case of an imminent threat or actual emergency, the guest would simply push the unit’s CALL SECURITY button, comparable to pulling a fire alarm. Immediately, they will be greeted by a remote monitoring officer who could then activate additional device alarms and dispatch additional security or law enforcement, all while capturing every incident detail including, video and recorded audio securely on the cloud.

ROSA (Responsive Observation Security Agent) is a security supplemental device that includes critical autonomous response to help simulate security personnel actions at a fraction of the cost. The device’s 180° field of view through dual hi-resolution, full-color, always-on digital cameras provide 24/7 visibility and monitoring.

ROSA can also be used to recognize and deter loitering. This device’s continually active analytics – all built-in – create an alert based on the end-users’ particular needs. An internal countdown timer is then created, and if the identified people remain in view of the device beyond the established time, an alarm and alert is activated. Furthermore, an on-duty guard or remote monitoring officer would be notified of the incident and then could visually identify these suspicious individuals. Once identified, the guard could initiate an audio announcement through the ROSA device notifying them that they must leave, or the property would take appropriate further actions.

ROAMEO (Rugged Observation Assistance Mobile Electronic Officer) is RAD’s latest addition to the lineup. When mobility, speed, and power are needed, ROAMEO is the robot for the job.

Innovative from the ground up to its impressive nearly 7’ total height, ROAMEO is an outdoor security robot unlike any deployed to date. ROAMEO takes all of RAD’s industry- leading AI analytics, video surveillance capabilities, and interactive communications and puts them on the move, at speeds of up to 12 mph.

ROAMEO’s 360-degree field-of-view routed through a robust analytic suite, all documented securely on the cloud through enhanced cellular services will allow ROAMEO to map property patrol sites, plan and execute routes, avoid obstacles (i.e., people, trees, power posts), and collect and apply data to further optimize for precision and efficiency.

How can non-biased technology provide community services?

Based on recent research, it appears video security monitoring is most effective when combined with other crime deterring methods such as improvements in security guard training, lighting of surrounding areas, and the digital recording of all suspicious incidents. Research concludes that a deterrence may only be achieved in select situations. A University of Leicester report showed that traditional video camera surveillance devices did contribute to a decrease in vehicle theft from parking garages, but did little to deter shoplifting or other activities in city streets and open areas.

When security cameras are first installed within an environment, they can provide a deterrent effect to a wide range of crimes. However, the effect of these cameras on crime appears to diminish in the longer term. In order to sustain the effect of security cameras on a particular offense, the cameras must be used to increase the threat of apprehension and arrest for offenders and trespassers.

A traditional security camera system may act to temporarily deter some crime. However, a much more potent security and surveillance solution would also provide law enforcement with immediate alerts, initiate warnings, identify possible intruders, securely record high resolution video that would enable authorities to apprehend, arrest and prosecute the offenders that had not been deterred. RAD has this exact solution

These RAD devices will not stop all crime from occurring, but they certainly will supplement law enforcement’s efforts to deter, alert, apprehend and eventually prosecute offenders with reduced risk of harm and injury to all personnel, and with great reductions in cost.
